Titoro! Look at the leaves! Or is it snow? It was definitely fun! When one of our kaiako brought out some old newspaper and started ripping it up into tiny pieces, the tamariki in our Preschool room were pretty keen to join in. And then the smiles grew even more when they were encouraged to throw them in the air and watch them fall. Soon we were lying in them, throwing them up and watching them fall towards us, or putting piles on each other  before shaking them all off. Some of the tamariki decided to extend their own play by adding the nearby tractors and trailors, with the newspaper pieces becoming the loads to carry around and tip on and off - just like on the farm.
The joy on the faces of the tamariki during this experience were what play and learning should be all about. Friends joining in together to have fun in the moment, using our imagination and working together sharing ideas and a laugh.
And when it was time to pick up all the 'leaves' or plough up all the 'snow' the tamariki pitched in to help. What wonderful co-operation! Ka pai ti mahi tamariki ma! Great work children, we had it tidied up in no time - with the newspaper off to be recycled of course.
