There is no better way to enjoy this sunny weather other than playing with water.

At BestStart Ngatai Rd senses came alive and learning is happening in so many different curriculum areas as the children play with the water in the sandpit.

The children were actively exploring using their sense of touch – as the water first flowed through the hose it was warm from the hose being in the sun and then it turned cold.  Feeling the water as it first dribbled out the hose until there was quite a bit of pressure also heightened their awareness of touch.

So many children had fun exploring with water in the sand and each child was learning and exploring something different that was valuable to them.

We had lots of sharing and turn taking as there is only one hose to use, children were learning basic math concepts such as measuring; motor skills were being developed as they poured water – watching the water level slowly rise, scooped water and sand and filled the containers.

Children’s oral language skills were being enhanced as they developed and created their own working theories and ideas, allowing them to problem solve, listen to each other, give points of view and build their vocabulary.

It was a fantastic time for all, and it was wonderful to hear the conversations and laughter as the children had fun sharing their learning with all.
