Recently in Te Whakakaha Room our tamariki have been looking at springtime planting. As part of our work towards our Healthy Heart award we have been looking at growing our own vegetables in a ground to table project. Our tamariki have seen the process through from watching the seed germinate on paper towel to planting the seedlings in our garden. They have also grown their very own grass caterpillar.

Through these learning experiences our tamariki are able to make sense of their world while seeing the planting process through. They have been able to explore the garden while discovering different slugs and insects along the way. We have also been able to research what we would like to grow and use different reference books to spark conversation and questions.
