Over the past few weeks, we have been working on our gardening project. This came about from our previous topic around superheroes as we were looking at Rongo, the guardian of Agriculture. We started to grow some beans and watched as one developed and grew inside a jar. We were then able to watch as the roots developed and then the leaves. We noticed and talked about how it changed every day. From there we started to grow all sorts of things. We have planted some flowers and some beetroot seeds. These have just started to grow, and we are super excited. This planting has helped us to remember the steps of planting our seeds, from adding the soil, making a hole, adding the seeds, and then covering them over with more soil. Lastly, we added some water to help the seeds grow big and strong! There have been lots of discussions along the way about what plants need and what they eat. We have learned some new words like nutrients, soil, and absorbing (when it comes to plants drinking water).

We have also started to look at what kinds of insects live in the garden. We went bug hunting in one of our books with some magnifying glasses, to help us see all the creatures. We hope to take this outside and repeat this to see what insects are out in our backyard!

This links with our philosophy of building wisdom through kindness. We are learning about how to care and show respect for our living world and how we are part of it!
