It was a nice and sunny morning and our tamariki had fun exploring the benefits of wind energy. They did a lot of arts and craft to test the power of wind. They started the morning making kites wind socks and wind chimes. They watched how the kite flew when there was wind and how they had to run and exert power to make the kite fly when there was no wind. They were fascinated by the sounds that came out of the wind chimes that we made using shells and beads. During mat time we discussed about the uses of wind energy and the disasters when the wind is too powerful. We also learned that wind is a renewable energy source. Interestingly we read a story about  Tāwhirimātea  the Māori God of the wind and storms. They made paper toy windmills/ pin wheels and talked about how windmills are used to make electricity. They also had fun doing some blow painting. The babies enjoyed playing with bubbles and they watched how the streamers move in the wind. They also fluttered the paper to create wind energy and pretended it to be a fan.

Children had fun learning about the benefits of wind energy. Wind power is the energy obtained from the wind. It is one of the oldest-used energy sources by humans and today is the most seasoned and efficient energy of all renewable energies.
