Recently focusing on the the theme of science our tamariki had fun experimenting with the gloop. The tamariki helped their kaiako mix the solution of corn flour and water together, and once ready the mixture was placed on the tray.

The tamariki were eager to explore! We then added food colouring for the tamariki to explore colours, patterns and mixing. They dug their hands and fingers deep down into the gloop and used their finger and hand muscles to scoop the gloop. The tamariki were very curious of the solution changing shape, texture and consistency at it started to drip off their fingers. We discussed that the solution was once hard to scoop from the tray but now the mixture felt like dribbly liquid .

The tamariki had a great time learning about the concept of cause and effect, and exploring the science properties of solids and liquids. Gloop is a great sensory activity that is open ended and allows the tamariki to explore their natural curiosity. Gloop engages and stimulates the senses and their emotional well being. Through play the tamariki are refining their fine motor skills through tactile play, along with learning to play alongside others.

What a fun, messy, science activity all in one that can spark a sense of wonder and curiosity.
