Grandparent Afternoon

BestStart Halswell Road hosted a Breast Cancer Pink Ribbon fundraiser event where we invited grandparents along for the afternoon. Grandparents joined in art activities in each of the rooms alongside the children and then we all came together as a centre in one room to sing some waiata (songs) together before we shared some pink-themed kai (food) together. Participating in these activities together aligned with our centre's value of whanaungatanga - coming together to enhance relationships.

Tamariki (children) loved showing their grandparents our centre, engaging with art, dancing, reading books, and exploring the outdoor environment together. Through events like these, tamariki make stronger connections between the home and the centre. They see that kaiako (teachers) value their family and experiences from outside of the centre, enhancing their mana and sense of belonging. We loved seeing all the smiles on tamariki, grandparents and kaiako faces as they spent time together, nurturing relationships and learning more about each other.

We enjoy hosting whanau events here at BestStart Halswell Road to nurture community connections and enhance whanau sense of belonging and relationships.
