At BestStart East Tamaki, we dedicated a special day to honour the grandparents who play a vital role in our tamariki’s lives. With music, activities, and warm whānau connections, our Grandparents Day was a heartfelt celebration of love and legacy.
At BestStart East Tamaki, we celebrated Grandparents Day on 18 July 2025 at our centre. This special occasion was dedicated to honouring the love, wisdom, and guidance that grandparents bring into our children’s lives.
We invited all grandparents to join us for a joyful day filled with fun activities, children’s performances, and opportunities to create precious memories together. Blue was chosen as the colour theme for the event, representing stability, wisdom, and inspiration.
At BestStart East Tamaki, Grandparents Day is a valued celebration. We believe grandparents deserve to be recognised for their important role in their grandchildren’s lives – not only through their love, but through the life experiences and values they share.
The event highlighted the principle of Whānau Tangata (Family and Community) and supported children's sense of belonging and identity by including their extended whānau, a core value in Te Whāriki.
It also reflected Tātaiako competencies such as Whanaungatanga (Relationships), Manaakitanga (Care and Respect), and Tangata Whenuatanga, which nurtures children’s understanding of their identity and heritage.
We received lots of positive feedback from parents, expressing their appreciation for a celebration where grandparents could be actively involved in their grandchildren's learning journey.
