Namaste. At BestStart Parkside shared culture is promoted through celebrating different cultural festivals, languages and events of our uniquely diverse and vibrant rich community of families. Cultures, Languages and Identities are weaved throughout our culturally responsive planning. This fosters sense of belonging for our children and their families, helps us build stronger relationships with our ākonga and whanau, thus working to achieve the best learning outcomes for our tamariki.

One of the amazing festivals, we celebrated this month was Diwali- the Indian Festival of lights, where the bad or evil is defeated by truth and good karma. Parents were delighted to see how engaged the children were. Our children really enjoyed the Indian outfits, arts and crafts activities, henna, music and songs and shared Diwali sweets. It was so nice to see and hear the children greeting each other with Namaste gesture and saying Happy Diwali.

This showed respect and tolerance for other cultures in their society, embracing another language and spreading kindness. Our children are learning about other cultures and traditions in a rich and meaningful way, at such an early age, which is visible in our centre community. Our Indian children and teachers are proud of their heritage, loved sharing it and have a great sense of belonging at Parkside.
