In the Kahurangi room (under twos) we have been having lots of sensory play with gloop, bottles and different fabrics. In April we have had celebrations for Easter and then in our room we have done lots of arts and crafts. We made a rabbit with paper and cotton wool and decorated paper eggs with felts and different types of collage. We coloured rabbits and made little baskets to put our chocolate eggs to take home. The older children had egg and spoon races with the toddler room, which enhances co-ordination and balance. This is how tuakana teina relationships are made and enhances positive relationships and communication. Easter is a time of togetherness and family and here at Papakura best start we are all about whaanau and love.

In the Pounamu room for Easter, we have been busy with Easter arts and crafts as children loved painting Easter eggs, creating an Easter field by gluing little eggs, chicks, bunnies and nests on to the paper. On last day of that week Tamariki loved the Easter egg hunt that we planned in the centre this time instead of our annual Easter egg hunt due to being in red light of COVID.  Kaiako created some laminated eggs and hid them at different places while children were pretending to be sleeping bunnies. It was amazing to see those smiles after they spotted the hidden eggs in the sand pit, kitchen cabinets, in the Whare, on the trees and under the boxes. After that, toddlers and older infants had fun playing the egg and spoon race game along with the teachers. It was a bit tricky to keep the egg on the spoon while walking. Some of us managed to walk with them, but it did need a lot of concentration and coordination.

Happy Easter everyone, we hope you all had a good Easter!

Our teachers in the kawakawa room have been working on specific skills such as tracing , letter an number recognition and ball skills. This month we also celebrated Easter were we all made Easter baskets , Easter eggs and did Easter paintings. These two friends are our spirit animals an they are always on the look out for our tamariki who are always follow the room rules , being kind an caring and also helping their friends and at the end of the week our spirit animals get to choose who they spend the weekends with.
