Kia ora. At BestStart Parkside we continue to align our teaching and learning activities to foster healthy eating and looking afer our well-being. For the last four years we have kept the tradition of Carrot Hunting as part of one of the centre Easter celebration activities.

Research says, the more experience children have with counting, the more they will learn the meaning of numbers. Understanding the meaning of numbers takes experience with counting lots of things, in different contexts, and we teach these skills by providing our children these experiences regularly. We make our teaching and learning experiences more authentic, fun and creatively crafted. We also take into account fostering sustainable ideas.

For Easter we did carrot wrapping, and carrot hunting. Whilst engaging in this activity children were using their fine motor skills to wrap the carrots using reusable foil, developing the sense of numbers and counting. They were also learning to include healthy eating and affordable game ideas in celebrations, which also can be fun and rewarding.

Hiding and seeking are fun games for children, as they enjoy some competition. After the carrots were found children helped make carrot cake which we enjoyed for afternoon tea.
