Happy Mother's Day!
Happy Mother's Day to the incredible Mama's in our tamariki lives. In the PikoPiko room we have spent the month of April getting ready for this day. As we have Manaakitanga in our centre kawa (philosophy) it is important to us to ensure we are teaching our tamariki about being kind and respectful to those who do so much for us.
How important it is to be thankful and how a way to express this is through gifting. We have been busy making our gifts this month. We collected recycled glass jars and used tissue paper and glue to make tea light candle holders. We also got the paint out and made some cards. During the jar making we worked on different skills like hand eye coordination and patience as it got frustrating having to wait for a turn, as well as the sticky glue making the tissue paper stick to our fingers!
As for the painting it was a fun sensory experience as most tamariki used their hands and fingers to manipulate the paint. We also worked on things like communication skills and NZ sign language as well as our motor skills.
We also included this sweet poem:
“Dear Mum, You’re a hug when I need it, a smile when I am sad, Happy Mother’s Day, you’re the best Mum I’ve ever had! Love…”
We want to be sure to thank all our wonderful Mama's and all they do for the tamariki in our centre, we hope you all have a beautiful day.
