During the first few weeks of January, we ran our holiday programme. This was filled with lots of fun learning activities and ended with a lovely Grandparents' afternoon tea.

A few highlights of our holiday programme were

· Cultural day- this was a wonderful opportunity for our whanau and tamariki to come dressed in their cultural clothing. We also printed off the children’s home country flags and they had a choice to have their home flag face painted on their cheek. The children enjoyed representing their culture and discussing their clothing and flags.

· Wheels day- Our tamariki were very enthused and loved showing off their ‘wheels’.. Bikes and Scooters were bought in and out tamariki enjoyed sharing with other children who wanted a turn.

· Grandparents' Afternoon tea. Teacher Sarah worked hard in the Kitchen preparing a delicious high tea style kai. Sarah made sandwiches, scones and of course sausage rolls! Yum!

The feedback from our whanau and grandparents was very positive and we will definitely be doing more whanau afternoon teas in the future!

We also celebrated the Chinese New Year as a centre and dressed in Yellow and Red. Celebrating Chinese New Year allows children the opportunity to explore and gain an

understanding of the diverse and rich heritage we have as New Zealanders. They are able to gain insight and develop respect for other cultures and for some children it gave them the opportunity to share their culture with their peers.

We wish you all a very happy new year and are excited for the year ahead.

Viyan’s grandfather enjoyed coming and meeting his teachers and thanked us for the care we give to Viyan. He thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon tea.

Darsh and Praneel proudly wear their cultural clothing and represent both of their cultures India and New Zealand.
