Te ra in the Preschool room we harvested harakeke (flax) to make putiputi (flax). Before we could cut the harakeke there was tikanga to follow. Firstly Donna said her mihi (introduction) then a karakia(prayer)  acknowledging Ranginui (sky) and Papatuanuku (earth) and this place the puna of BestStart Pleasant Point. To cut the harakeke we had a korero (talk) about which pieces we could take so as to protect the wairua (wellbeing) of the plant. The tamariki then helped split the rau (leaves) and took turns to fold the rau and make the putiputi.
