During the July school holiday we were able to utilize our Kindy van and make trips to our local museum.  This helped us to further develop out knowledge that we have learned through our story: He ika a maui.

The majestic Te Winika, a 200 year-old carved waka taua (Maaori war canoe) was collectively built by Ngaati Tipa of Tuakau, Ngaati Maru of Hauraki and Ngaati Mahanga of the western coastline of the Waikato. Te Winika's history is a story of Tainui and the King movement.

We looked at the beautiful crafted work on display, the whakapapa of the canoe and different art work depicting maori gods and artifacts.

We could take our learnings back to kindy and help make connections with things of the widerworld.
