During the month of March, the BestStart Cornwall tamariki acknowledged Big Heart Day across our three rooms; Tongarerewa (Infants), Fetuao (Toddlers), and Purerehua (Preschool). Through physical play, loose parts, and self-awareness, tamariki and teachers encouraged the value of sharing and caring.

As part of our quality in practice and shared environmental development, teachers and tamariki took advantage of the chilly mornings with high and low-impact sports adventures. The morning outdoor environment became a regular Zoomba outlet; filled with giggles and high energy. The Indoor area hosted soft Yoga and intentional loose parts learning. Overall, tamariki enjoyed a regiment of exercise and healthy fun (nga tamariki hakinakina ki te ngahau hauora). As part of our Internal Evaluation (sustainable practice), we have included loose parts to our learning environments, where preparation of activities and child interests have increased the use of loose parts within arts & crafts, music & dance, and quiet areas of learning.

To extend our knowledge of Wellness and Environment Awareness we developed our environment areas to encourage Kawa (Routines), where tamariki support 'purei haumaru' (safe play) and 'taku whakapuaki' (self-expression). The development has shown the well-being of each child is supported and exercised throughout each learning room and has also has shown improvements.
