Healthy cookie shapes

At BestStart Lynmore, we are excited to be working towards renewing our Healthy Heart Award, Tohu Manawa Ora. Today the tamariki, helped with making afternoon kai. They made some healthy cookie dough and then lots of fun was had as they used rolling pins to roll out the dough and cookie cutters to cut them into different shapes. Many discovered that using rolling pin was not as easy as it was required, but it was great to see the determination and persistence of all involved. Raisins were used to decorate our cookies before popping them into the oven to bake.

Baking and cooking with the tamariki are such a great way to help enhance their language development. While baking, they are often exposed to new words, helping to expand their vocabulary and allowing them to better understand the actions that go with different words. And what a better outcome than to have a yummy healthy snack to enjoy at the end.
