At BestStart Botany Road, healthy choices are at the heart of what we do. Our Silver Whānau Award celebrates our journey with tamariki and whānau in building lifelong habits of good nutrition, active play, and wellbeing.
Healthy Heart Foundation has awarded BestStart Botany Road the Silver Whānau Award. This year we embarked on a journey of healthy eating, making positive choices, learning about nutrition, and keeping active in both mind and body.
Through Tohu Manawa Ora/Healthy Heart Foundation, we received valuable learning resources and guidance from a professional nutritionist to help create a heart-healthy environment for our tamariki and their whānau.
We collaborated with families, sharing healthy meal ideas and activities to keep children moving even on rainy days, focusing on skills such as throwing, striking, and catching — and understanding why these are important for development.
Our kaiako also took part in professional development, learning strategies to have mana-enhancing conversations with ākonga about healthy choices and active movement. BestStart’s strong policy on Nutrition and Active Movement supports us in maintaining a safe, healthy, and fun environment.
In just four months, we achieved our Silver Award — a process that usually takes at least six months! We are very proud of this achievement and grateful for the support of Tohu Manawa Ora/Healthy Heart Foundation.
