At BestStart Papatoetoe we stayed connected with our families and whānau as we celebrated our Hindu festival of lights , Diwali.  It is one of the major festivals celebrated with love, laughter and food.  Diwali symbolizes the spiritual ‘Victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance’.

We celebrated our Diwali in two bubbles where our tamariki did lots of activities, making Diya (clay/play dough lamp), Rangoli designs, learnt and explored the Indian artifacts, decorations of the room, dress ups and music and movement at centre and on zoom mat times. Our whanau also shared their home celebrations with us via Storypark. It was a great learning experience for the Children to explore the science and nature, collage with clay and playdough to create their artifacts for Diwali.

Learning about others culture enhances cultural diversity which makes a meaningful learning with others with respect and understanding.
