Holi Colour Run!

This year we celebrated the Holi festival by doing a colour run in the paddock. The children enjoyed running around and having confetti and coloured powder thrown in the air like leaves. They looked up to the sky and allowed the colour to settle over their faces.

Their favourite part was seeing each other at the end and laughing at all the colours they could see on their friends and their teachers. In the lead-up to this day, the children learnt about the Holi festival and what it symbolises, and they were able to engage in the culture of their peers and their teachers. Learning about other cultures enables our children to foster respect for those around us, open their minds to different ways of living and being, and love people for who they are.

Our centre vision Where Life Grows links back to this celebration, as in India, it is the celebration of spring and the end of winter. It is to celebrate new life and a good harvest season. Here at Puketaha we love to grow our own vegetables and fruit trees, learning about living off the land and taking care of more than just ourselves. Animals, land and all that it provides are a big part of this.
