The tamariki in the Preschool are fascinated with science, always eager to experiment and develop their Māramatanga (working theories). On this morning, the tamariki were provided with ice to explore, with added resources such as coloured dye and paintbrushes.

As the tamariki participated in this experience, they were exploring key science concepts of temperature, melting of ice and what happens when the dyed water is painted on top of the ice. As I listened closely to the tamariki, they actively discussed the experience with the frequent word of cold coming forth.

While Tanner thought it was cold too, he also said the ice was "sticky" when he touched it. This is a great example of the tamariki learning new information to develop their understanding of the world around them | te rangahau me te mātauranga. It is through learning experiences like these, the tamariki are being introduced to the world of science.
