Intentional Learning
Kia Ora Everglade Whanau!
Our tamariki have been learning a variety of intentional learning at Preschool. Outdoor play, literacy, problem-solving, and building relationships.
Outdoor play: Our tamariki are learning to balance their bodies, play together in a group, negotiate, and communicate with their peers. They get the opportunity to develop their gross motor skills and manage the risks they take when balancing or chasing their friends, and jumping from boxes in regard to height and depth.
Literacy: Our tamariki are firstly learning to recognize their name by visually seeing it, then taking the next steps in being able to write their name. This transition takes place when they come into the Moonbeam Preschool room. We allow spaces for them to be able to visually access alphabet puzzles, singing songs and create opportunities for them to visually see and understand the alphabet.
Problem-solving: We have been initiating opportunities for group play, where children have time and space to talk to each other, support each other, understand their friend’s views and opinions, share their ideas, and know that their ideas are valued. This has been through building big floor puzzles together, creative art, construction, self-help skills when dishing their own food, and dressing which links to independency.
Building relationships: We have had a few new children start, we have seen that through play, children have been building relationships with children that are settling in at Preschool.
Our tamariki have shown new children the routine, being kind, respectful, and showing lots of Aroha. We have been talking and having conversations with children through mat times, songs, dancing, and many activities.
