Interacting with nature

BestStart Glenfield has recently been looking at incorporating more natural resources and opportunities to interact with nature as part of supporting the knowledge our tamariki has of Papatūānuku and how we can care for her.

As part of our current work in this area our Infant and Toddler rooms have recently welcomed a new rabbit into our area to live with our 4 chickens. It is so great to see all our tamariki across the centre having the opportunity to interact with both the chickens and rabbit.

The kaiako in the under 2's space have also planted Rosemary in our nature garden for the tamariki to look after. This also offers a great sensory experience as the smell of the Rosamary is amazing and can be enjoyed while playing outside.

To extend further on how we can use nature within our learning areas, our kaiako Monica collected some fallen leaves and twigs with the tamariki after the heavy winds. They then used these to paint with and results were amazing.

Nurture the nature of the child and watch them grow.
