Our current focus for the tamariki in the Tipu and Pihinga room is Belonging. That through different experiences and opportunities, children will be encouraged to make connections between people, places, and things.

With the lovely warm weather, the Kaiako have observed that the tamariki really enjoy exploring their outside environment. Working together to find many different bugs in the soil. Much to the delight of the kaiako when they get ask to hold them (YUK!).

Supporting this emerging interest, a nature hunt was created inside. Encouraging the tamariki to learn about papatuanuku (mother earth) and life science. Making the experience even more fun we incorporated a bit of technology getting the children to take pictures of all the bugs they found.

We had so much fun exploring the table together, finding new discoveries everywhere we looked. Throughout this experience there was a lot of communication as the tamariki talked about all the items of the table, of what they found and where they thought the bugs might have come from.
