It's been a busy month!
There is a whakatauki (a Maori proverb); ‘the way the sapling is shaped determines how the tree grows’. Here at BestStart Kenderdine, our value is respect: for yourself, for others and for your environment. This is reiterated everyday through discussion or a real situation where it prompts opportunities for teaching and learning. We discuss with our children appropriate and acceptable solutions where they are encouraged to voice their views, thoughts and opinions. Some examples of discussion topics are – Respect, Being responsible means, What does it mean “think for yourself”, Why do we have rules, what should I do when I feel angry’.
Our teachers continue to provide a fun learning environment as indicated on our weekly programmes. Activities included science experiments, Game Day, Blue Day, Treasure Card Day and being responsible is taking care of our environment. These activities were brainstormed alongside with our children allowing them to be ‘co-authors of their education’. We also acknowledge cultural celebrations such as Fiji Language Week and Niue Language Week. We also had a special invitation to watch the Papatoetoe West School, Jungle Book production and also celebrate Diwali, which our children and teachers thoroughly enjoyed.
