Today (29th June) BestStart Puni Road got to experience snow that fell from the sky! After morning tea our tamariki were enjoying the break in the rain to ride the bikes around the playground, when suddenly we had to rush inside, as large pieces of hail fell from the sky! We watched, and waited and once it stopped, we got to go outside in our boots, beanies and jackets and enjoy the ice! It was so cold outside that it took two hours for it all to melt away, so lots of fun was had. We did taste tests, rolled up balls of ice in our hands and threw them at each other. We could not believe this once in a lifetime experience! For most of our tamariki this was there first chance to feel ‘snow’.

We made the most of the snow and created some learning outcomes for our tamariki! Holding the snow within our fingertips was a great opportunity for texture experience and fine motor skills! As well as looking at science and trying to figure out why this happened! We talked about how there was cold weather coming from Antarctica!
