As an extension to the topic of growing beanstalks we read the story Jack and the Beanstalk. The children then decided that they would like to create their own beanstalk with a giant. We all went in search for materials and the children decided that the large stick would back a great base to hand our leaves.

Several children gathered around and everyone took turns in painting the stick green.

To create the leaves the children cut up green tissue paper into strips and used their fingers to scrunch it up into balls before gluing them onto their leaves.

But we now needed a giant. Luckily Sophie, our amazing cook, came to the rescue and create the perfect pair of giant legs. We attached the leaves to our stalk, hung up the legs and finished it off with a cloud and castle.

This was a great collaboration of team work, sharing and decision making that all the children took part in.

We will continue to explore this further by filling up our vegetable garden and planting fruit trees.
