January Adventures: Exploring Fire Safety & Chinese New Year!
In January, our tamariki engaged in a variety of enriching learning experiences. Two highlights were the firefighters’ visit to our preschool and our Chinese New Year celebration.
On January 23, 2025, firefighters came to speak with our tamariki in the preschool room. Their eyes lit up with excitement as they listened attentively. They learned about the different firefighting equipment and their uses, such as the axe for breaking doors in emergencies, the torchlight for visibility, the helmet and coat for protection, the mask for breathing, and the oxygen tank for safety.
The highlight of the visit was when they got to touch and try on the equipment. They also had the opportunity to ask questions and participate in a role-play activity, where they practiced crawling to find an exit—an important fire safety lesson. On January 29, 2025, we celebrated Chinese New Year with various hands-on learning experiences.
Tamariki listened to the story of the 12 zodiac animals, had a photoshoot holding oranges, red envelopes, and pomelos, and created a prosperity tree through art. They also played a red envelope (ampao) hunting game and made Chinese dumplings with teacher supervision. It was a fun and meaningful celebration for everyone!
