Our tamariki helped choose what events we would like to have for our holiday programme this term. The first week consisted of; ‘Games day’ where we made and set up lots of different board games to play. Some of our friends are really interested in Octonauts at the moment so we made our own Octonauts ‘Kei a wai?’ game which is a ‘Who has it?’ game. We also had dress up day where we came in dressed up in our favourite superhero or character dress-ups. We had disco day- complete with disco lights and loud children’s music, which was a huge hit! Our tamariki really enjoyed this last term so it was great to hear it being requested again. We had an Active Movement Day where we had races and physical games and also ‘dinosaur yoga’ after lunch as our post-lunch relax session. We had a Car Racing Day on the first Friday where we created lots of different types of race tracks on the floor with some good old fashioned masking tape, (a great indoor rainy day activity!) and race tracks drawn on cardboard boxes. We also made some ‘cars’ with cardboard boxes and our tamariki wrote their racing numbers on the front once they’d decorated them. Then we had races in the hall up and down the carpet. So much fun!

The following week in the holiday programme found us getting messy for Messy Play Day with shaving foam, water sponges and gloop. What a fun day to kick off the week! We then had ‘Show and tell’ Day where each friend brought in a special toy from home and shared some information at wā whāriki/mat time about why they brought their chosen toy. We then had a fantastic trip to Maclean Park mid-week and the weather was kind enough to bring us a lovely sunny morning for our excursion. Our tamariki love going to the park- often they visit with their own whānau so it was lovely to be able to connect with home experiences and our community. Our ‘Wheels Day’ followed the following day where they brought in bikes and scooters from home and we set up a secure space in our car park to race and play on our bikes. The last Friday is a tradition where we have ‘PJ’s and Movie Day’ to relax after two weeks of fun.

Next month we’re looking forward to Cook Island Language Week and also some internal renovation work so watch this space for some exciting new developments!
