At BestStart Baverstock, we joyfully celebrated Chinese/Lunar New Year with our children and whānau. The children dressed in vibrant red, symbolising good luck and prosperity, and participated in a special dumpling-making activity with their families.

A highlight of the celebration was the children's heartfelt performance of a Chinese song, showcasing their enthusiasm and appreciation for the culture. This event beautifully reflected our commitment to embracing multiculturalism, fostering a sense of belonging, creating meaningful connections within our diverse community, and enhancing whanaungatanga.

Chinese New Year, or the Spring Festival, marks the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. It is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture and was added to the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2024.

Marking the end of winter and the beginning of spring, this festival takes place from Chinese New Year's Eve to the Lantern Festival, held on the 15th day of the year. The first day of Chinese New Year begins on the new moon that appears between 21 January and 20 February.

Let's have a blessed and happy year, whānau!
