At BestStart Abacus we pride ourselves on our large outside play area. Our tamariki are drawn to the nature and the endless learning opportunties and fun activities it has available. An environment rich in nature and resources is what we aim for so we can promote each tamariki wairua to develop holistically at their own pace. We encourage our tamariki to be guardians of their environment to support their physical health, socioemotional development, development of all the senses, and overall wellbeing and mental health. Our tamariki love looking after our plants, planting vegetables in our garden and also looking after our beautiful Heihei! We have been learning all about our natural environment and a particular interest they have been having lately is our plants. We have been growing and planting vegetables in our garden at our centre. Our tamariki love watching the vegetables grow, reguarly water them with our collected rain water from our water tank, and then eventually picking the vegetables for our kai! Gardening gives our tamariki hands-on access to our natural world and gives them opportunties to explore their senses. It is also known to provide us with positive outcomes for health and well-being and also helps to relax and ground us by supporting our mental health!!
