In Akonga our tamariki have been exploring the outdoors and having lots of fun with each other. The tamariki thought it was a great idea to have a race! The tamariki ran as fast as they could around the boxes, climbing all the way up to the top to get down the slide faster than their friends.

There was a variety of ways the tamariki went down the slide, some on their bottoms, some on their tummies and some on their backs. Once they reached the bottom they repeated the process over and over laughing and giggling all the way.

This activity is a great way to get children involved in physically active play such as jumping, running and climbing which all promotes a healthy heart. The tamariki also have opportunity for risk taking as they use their climbing skills to climb to the top of the boxes and then jump off.

Coming into summer means we can have more opportunities for outdoor physical activity such as obstacle courses and jumping sack races.
