The cooler winter weather has been in full swing for us here at BestStart Katikati!! The teaching team decided to take this as a learning opportunity to teach our tamariki about developing an awareness around protecting and nurturing their health and Wellbeing/Mana Atua. This has been taught to our tamariki through us intentionally teaching and by paying attention to all aspects of their physical care, such as healthy eating and nutrition and opportunities for physical activity. We have provided opportunities for the children to try different healthy foods to enhance their taste buds and enrich their sensory skills in a safe, stable and responsive environment.

The tamariki have been learning how to look after themselves through undertaking hygiene practices alongside their Kaiako such as hand washing before and after meals, washing hands after toileting routines, blowing their noses and identifying their nappies in the changing room throughout their routine times.

Through these experiences the Kaiako have noticed the tamariki becoming more independent in making their own choices that support the development of self-worth, identity, confidence and enjoyment, together with emotional regulation and self-control.
