Recently in the Pepe and Fern Room we have moved our group planning to Kia Tūpore - Be Kind - to support and build each child's social and emotional competence and resilience. Part of this planning cycle is about finding out who we are and how our emotions and feelings work. On this particular day we set up a self portrait experience for the tamariki to have a go at drawing themselves.

Kaiako took photos of each tamaiti (child) and put half of their face on a page and then let them explore mark making while sketching the other side of their face. The tamariki (children) really enjoyed looking at their picture while creating their master pieces! The tamariki (children) recognised each other as they were being handed out, developed their pencil grip and mark making skills and recognised different parts of their face as they drew their own.
