Lots of our families don’t have a pet at home, so when one of our families needed to find homes for kittens, we saw a chance to enrich our programme at BestStart Kilmarnock.  Lottie and Donna came to Kilmarnock at seven weeks of age, and we set up their own little classroom in our admin office with Ang taking care of them.

Each morning the children like to check on the kittens as they arrive at the centre, and throughout the day they get lots of visitors from different classrooms as the children love to watch them play and sleep.  Now that they are getting bigger, Lottie is training to be on a lead in the office, so she has more room to roam and play while she’s nice and safe and contained in the office, and Ang is learning to do her work with Lottie’s help!

Lottie goes home with Ang every night, and Donna goes home with Katie and they both come in again most mornings.  I wonder if Donna will learn to go on a lead also?  We will have to see as the little cats get bigger and bigger – we think Donna might stay home as she gets bigger, but we hope Lottie might like to be our centre cat for a long time to come!
