Knowledge box project
Ngå tamariki at BestStart Mangorei Rd were very curious to find out about the items that are on display in reception as part of our Knowledge Box project with the community. It was a water metre! We had a korero about water metres and how water gets turned off and on. We discussed where the tap is, Some children mentioned where their ones were at home.
We went upon a journey to find the water toby here, once we found it out the front we opened it up to take a look. Once again we discussed when this would be used.....but we came across a problem...there was no metre reader like the one we were looking at inside. So we decided to go on a hunt for it....ngā tamariki were keeping an eye out trying to find numbers. There were lots of suggestions for the location, but unfortunately we could not find it anywhere.
So we phoned David at the council to find out more, and yes we don’t have one. The great news is there will be one installed, so we can learn more indepth about this. Once this is up and running we will take note each morning and afternoon to watch our water use. This will be recorded and on display at reception, keeping in line with our vision, we will start to talk about ways we can conserve our water use.
Our neighbours and centre families have a wealth of knowledge and we invited them to share with our children. We also want to demonstrate to our children how proud we are as a centre to be part of BestStart and also our wider centre community.
Parents and the community share with us something of interest to our children and we study it to find out more.
