The urge to move our bodies in different ways is a big focus for the Pūkeko tamariki at BestStart Willowpark Rd  and this week we provided ways for the tamariki to keep exploring and challenging themselves.

In the Nest we have made more space for ngā pēpē to move around the floor. Time spent playing freely on the floor allows for movement of the whole body and enables the development of strong muscles in the arms, legs, back and core.
This week in the Nest we have observed tamariki working on rolling, pulling themselves up into an all fours position and moving their bodies across the floor.

Our older tamariki are very focussed on climbing - many of you have been sharing stories with us about the climbing play the children are doing at home. We borrowed some climbing equipment from the Kiwi room to extend our interest in climbing. We are using mats and making sure a kaiako is always close by to ensure our play is safe, and we have been so impressed with the confidence, concentration, and understanding of risk that the tamariki have displayed.
