Our group planning focus in the Kauri room is still around Kaitiakitanga, however it is now leaning towards managing behaviour and regulation, as kaiako have noticed there is a need of support for all our tamariki as they learn, develop and strengthen their strategies around social and emotional competence. Some strategies kaiako are using to support our tamariki: Promote Positive Relationships (Mana Atua): Encourage cooperative play and teach conflict resolution. Foster Emotional Intelligence (Mana Atua): Label emotions and encourage self-regulation: Teach calming techniques such as deep breathing or taking a break to manage strong emotions effectively. Enhance Self-Identity and Well-Being (Mana Atua): Celebrate diversity: Incorporate activities that embrace different cultures, languages, and abilities and provide opportunities for personal choices. Create a Nurturing Environment (Mana Whenua): Establish a consistent routine: Routines create a sense of security and predictability, contributing to children's emotional stability and offers comfort and reassurance. Develop Communication and Relationship Skills (Mana Reo): Practice active listening: Demonstrate attentive listening during interactions with children, validating their thoughts and feelings. Promote Empathy and Caring (Mana Atua, Mana Tangata): Role model empathy: Demonstrate understanding and empathy towards others, showing children how to respond compassionately to their peers' emotions. Engage in acts of kindness. Encourage Collaborative Learning (Mana Ako): Group projects and activities: Foster a sense of teamwork by engaging children in group projects that require cooperation and sharing of ideas.
