A crisp autumn morning filled with creativity, teamwork, and nature! Our tamariki proudly created leaf art, transforming hedgehogs and bears with their own hand-picked leaves, building confidence and exploring the magic of the season.

With the leaves turning and the season shifting, we had a beautiful, creative morning immersed in nature.

The tamariki explored the wonders of autumn by making leaf art, decorating hedgehogs and little bears with carefully selected dried leaves. Each child chose their own leaves — big or small, smooth or spiky — and, with gentle support from the teachers, thoughtfully glued them onto their animal shapes.

It was a challenging task! Matching the right leaf to the right spot, managing the glue, and making it all stick required concentration and perseverance — especially for our younger friends. But every child remained engaged, focused, and eager, and it was heartwarming to see their pride as their creations came to life.

By the end, the hedgehogs wore coats of earthy greens and browns, and our tamariki were beaming with satisfaction. It was a joyful, hands-on experience that allowed children to explore textures, connect with nature, and strengthen their fine motor skills — all while expressing their creativity.

This experience beautifully reflects the strand of Contribution | Mana Tangata, as children worked alongside one another in a shared creative process, building confidence and celebrating their efforts.

It also aligns with Exploration | Mana Aotūroa, nurturing curiosity and encouraging tamariki to form working theories through play with natural materials.
