Learning about Matariki & Maori Culture
Here at Beststart Manly we had lots of fun celebrating Matariki during July. Through Art Work, books & songs we learnt more about the meaning behind Matariki & the Maori Culture. We had lots of Whanau engagement through the contribution of Vegetables towards our Soup, and were lucky enough to have one of our parents coming in to make Fry Bread. The Tamariki thoroughly enjoyed helping to prepare the Kai for our shared lunch, through peeling, grating and chopping the Vegetables and assisting in making the Fry Bread.
The Tamariki also planted some sunflower and wildflower seeds, and look forward to taking care of them and watching them grow! Sharing Cultural experiences at Beststart Manly allows our children to make connections between people, places and things in their world, while enhancing their identity and sense of belonging.
We believe the adventure starts here, so it is important to us that we acknowledge and celebrate the cultures that make up our Centre to ensure the life long journey of adventure is shared and celebrated with everyone.
