Here at Abacus, our tamariki have been showing a great interest in our living world lately, we wanted to grasp this interest and several activities that would cater to our kid's interests.

Last week we ventured off to Huka Honey Hive with six of our lucky tamariki. Once we got there the kids enjoyed learning all about the life of bees, with interactive activities and short films. One of our favorite activities whilst here was the glass hive. Which allowed the kids to look close and personal with the bees as they got to work through the glass window.

One of our talented kaiako even found the queen bee hiding among the hive for the children to peer through the magnifying glass at. A couple of weeks ago we also had a visit from our special friend Heidi who works for Greening Taupo. Heidi comes in often and the kids love getting stuck into all sorts of things outside with her.

On this day she bought us some plants for our nature garden. Our tamariki sat patiently and listened to her as she explained the process we would take to plant our new plants. Each child had a turn at helping out, keeping them busy for hours! By offering our tamariki these opportunities they can learn about their interests it furthers their knowledge and fosters a love of learning so they remain active in seeking new skills and information.
