Exploring Maori myths and legends with our tamariki is always a rewarding experience at BestStart Whangamata.

Each time a new legend is chosen the learning that happens strengthens our understanding of the rich history of Aotearoa - which contributes to  our vision - little steps to a big future.  This learning is shared with our whanau regularly - through storypark, displays and waiata but the real magic happens when our tamariki go home and share too.  Parents are finding out about Mahuika, Rata and the birds as well as Te Ika a Maui and his waka.  They have created their own batch of kawakawa balm - aptly named Tane's treasure, made volcanoes for Mahuika and even managed to raise money for the local community van by completing Maui's challenge courses.

Connecting with our local kura - their next adventure is a bush walk to search for Kereru, Kaka and Piwakawaka.

Our tamariki are learning to be just like Maui.  Courageous and clever.
