Learning all about music and sound
In Kowhai Pepe, we express our creative side whilst we learn all about music and sound. Does this make noise? Is it loud? Is it quiet? And most importantly, can we dance to it?
We love our musical mat times, where we enjoy waiata-a-ringa, songs with actions. Our Pepe are entranced by the singing, they are smiling and watching and will often copy the actions, using their hands, feet and sometimes, entire bodies to get into the groove.
All we have to do as kaiako is find a comfy spot, sit down and start singing, and our little musicians will make their way from whatever end of the playground they were exploring to join their friends and enjoy the waiata and kanikani, song and dance.
This musical interest has expanded into different ways our Pepe can also create music and sounds. Whether it is exploring all the different drums, tambourines, and shakers we have on our shelves, banging on the pots and pans in our kitchens or crinkling cellophane that's been taped to a table, we are all very curious about making music!
