June for our preschool room has been a month of learning different maths concepts through play and natural resources. Our children here at BestStart Inglewood have been   interested in the variety of new materials we have been offering in our class. They have shown a particular interested in the stones and shells. They are different sizes, textures and shapes. Our children seem to enjoy sorting them into size, while also lining them organising them on an angle to create a circle. It is amazing how a  simple bowl of stones and shells can offer our young tamariki opportunities to explore early mathematical concepts such as grouping, sorting and pattern making. They can also be used as a creative outlet as they are the medium used for making works of art. Here at BestStart we truly value the importance of learning through play
