At BestStart Kaiwharawhara our vision is “Cherishing Collaborative Learning”. During July our Kiwi Room were lucky enough to participate in three education sessions run by Martin at our local museum Te Papa.

We started off with a Matariki session where we learnt more about the meaning of Matariki along with exploring the wharenui and learning a waiata.

Our second session was bush, bugs and bones during this session we explored bush city at Te Papa and spent time with Martin learning about the natural environment and what makes New Zealand unique.

Our final session was Te Taiao Explorer. In this session the children explored the brand new natural environment exhibition, looking at makes New Zealand unique along with Mātauranga Māori concepts around nature and sustainability.

We are so lucky to be so close to this amazing resource within our community that helps us learn about the special country where we live.
