In the Matakauri room, the children have been engaged and immersed in mathematical concepts in a variety of learning experiences provided by the amazing teachers.

These activities have included ordering numbers 0-20.  Those cheeky dinosaurs with numbers on their feet were walking all over our ceiling!  We also learned all about shapes by reading books, and completing a variety of activities.

As the winter weather sets in these table top activities are very popular, but for the more active children, we provide activities like hoops where a certain  number of bean bags are thrown into or through each hoop, hop scotch where the squares are numbered, and identifying the shapes of the squishy shapes the children can build with or climb over.

At BestStart Queenstown, we value the transition to school and we support our tamariki to Be School Ready.  Our learning environment offers a range of mathematics and literacy resources to support the development of mathematical, reading and writing concepts using the interests and learning dispositions of individual children.
