Learning Te Reo through a variety of ways.
In the month of September, our nursery tamariki at BestStart Hei Hei celebrated our bicultural heritage through the celebration of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, Māori Language Week.
Our tamariki enjoyed being a part of various collaborative experiences where they got acquainted with the names of colours in te reo. They loved expressing themselves through the kanikani sessions on beloved waiata like “Mahunga, pakihiwi, puku, hope, waewae”.
Our tamariki loved familiarising themselves with te reo through waiata and pūrākau. They absolutely adored the story of how it all began by learning the story of Papatūānuku and Ranginui using digital technology.
Through these experiences, our tamariki were developing the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes to understand written, visual and oral language along with listening skills, concentration, coordination, and cooperation.
Ko taku reo taku ohooho, ko taku reo taku māpihi maurea.
(My language is my awakening, my language is my treasure.)
