Learning through Building and Construction

Our children in the preschool room have been very active and exploring within the areas of Building and Construction and through this we have seen children building relationships, problem solving and critically thinking while working with and alongside others.

Building and Construction promotes children’s fine motor skills and strengths and allows them to use their visual perceptions and spatial awareness as they fit pieces together.

Building and Construction encourages children’s independence and confidence as they use their imaginations to create their own structures, it also encourages; teamwork, social skills and communication which also creates patience, persistence, and focus.

Theorist Piaget believes children need to be able to see, touch, taste, small, move and hear the things they are learning about.

This is called concrete learning.
