Learning through music and dance!

During the month of August, our curriculum focus has been on music and dancing. This is a popular area of play in the Pūkeko room as our tamariki love to move and groove, showing us their awesome dance moves.

One of our favourite songs to dance to is "Fancy Dance" everyone loves to join in the actions for this one. What I have loved seeing this month, though, is how ngā tamariki interact more with each other such as holding hands while they are dancing.

It's great seeing their relationships develop. We also had lots of fun with the musical instruments. We found some bells in the cupboard, and oh, what a great sound these made.

Music can help children to:

• express feelings through voice and body
• develop rhythm and harmony
• be creative and have fun
• recognise and enjoy sounds, instruments, and different music
• value their own cultural music knowledge and participate in the music of other cultures.
