Our sandpit provides endless opportunities for open-ended play, teamwork, and social interaction. Whether tamariki are cooking up a feast with friends, digging a hole to the other side of the world, or figuring out how to move planks of wood, there is space for everyone to explore, create, and learn.

Trucks, diggers, buckets, spades, rakes, water, rocks—you name it, we use it to create fun and exciting experiences. Sand offers countless opportunities for learning and discovery, encouraging children to use their imagination and engage in meaningful, real-life play.

Some of the richest learning experiences in our centre take place in the sandpit. Alongside the fun, tamariki develop mathematical thinking, scientific understanding, language skills, and social competence through their play. They investigate, experiment, solve problems, and make sense of the world around them.

Working alongside others in the sandpit helps children develop communication and cooperation skills. They learn to share resources, negotiate roles, listen to different ideas, and celebrate their achievements together.

Children also strengthen their fine and gross motor skills as they dig, scoop, carry, pour, and construct. These experiences support the development of coordination, balance, and physical confidence in a natural and enjoyable way.

Our sandpit area is fully covered, so no matter the weather, you'll find us outside enjoying the sand. Come and visit us in the Kiwi Room—if you're lucky, you might even see a volcano erupt!
